Our Mechanical Engineers are James Petersen, Andy Arsenault and Ben Goss of Peterson Engineering.
James Petersen, P.E. and Andrew Arsenault, P.E. have each been designing energy efficient and effective HVAC systems for more than twenty years. Adopting an increasingly holistic view of buildings and energy in recent years has significantly changed the firm’s outlook. The success of the sustainable design movement has created new opportunities and has elevated the firm’s role on projects as the consulting mechanical engineer. Petersen Engineering now participates on project teams that more successfully utilize and incorporate the experience and expertise of team members. Through integration Petersen Engineering is able to help buildings achieve higher levels of comfort and efficiency, implement low technology solutions when possible and new technology when appropriate, eliminate over-design, as well as increase system simplicity, serviceability and durability.
Petersen Engineering, founded in 1992, is located in Portsmouth, NH. Examples of current green projects in design or in construction include a zero energy home with a ground source heat pump in Williamstown, MA; a 29 unit co-housing neighborhood using a central wood pellet heating plant in Peterborough, NH; a five-story office building with raised floor HVAC distribution in Portland, ME; a 50-student college housing complex heated with wood pellets in Bar Harbor, ME; and several single family green homes. All of these projects incorporate high functioning integrated design teams with a strong emphasis of high performing envelopes and finding appropriate solutions to satisfying HVAC loads.
James holds a BS in mechanical engineering and a BA in philosophy from the University of New Hampshire. He is a licensed engineer in NH, ME and MA, and a LEED Accredited Professional.
Andy holds a BS & MS in mechanical engineering from the University of New Hampshire. He is a licensed engineer in NH and ME, and is pursuing LEED accreditation.
