Green Woodlands is a multi generational family limited partnership with a goal of preserving a little piece of nature for many future generations. Our primary activities are wildlife management, research and education, historical preservation, environmental research and education, sustainable "green" forestry and forest property preservation. We currently have approximately 20,000 undeveloped acres of land under forest management in the towns of Lyme, Dorchester, Orford and Wentworth, New Hampshire. The property has eight remote ponds with the largest being Cummins Pond at approximately 160 acres.
The purpose of this web site is to assist in the project management and to document the steps in the concept, design, decision making, building and ongoing maintenance of an environmentally sound house. The "Barn/House Project" is located near Cummins Pond in Dorchester, NH.
Part of Green Woodland's charter is to help people connect to nature. Through positive outdoor experiences, people gain an understanding of the importance environmental preservation has on our individual lives and on society. This "getting it" is not just reading about nature but experiencing it so that it penetrates much more of our being than just the frontal lobes of our brain.
Our desire is to demonstrate a "Green" building that can be used as a model for people not wanting to abandon modern conveniences while still living a "sustainable" lifestyle.
The resources we as people use to put a roof over our heads have a dramatic effect on our environment. By utilizing renewable resources in the Barn House construction, maintenance and as a main power source we will be reducing our "carbon impact" on the environment.
This Site Perpetually Under Construction
This website will be a constant work in progress throughout this project, so if some sections look not quite complete or look like they are in draft mode, its probably because they are.
