The outside shell of the building is referred to as the envelope. The first layer outside of the timber frame was 1x8 inch pine shiplap boards that are installed diagonally. These boards were initially cut to their 1x8 inch dimension in various lengths based on the most productive use of the trees that the boards are cut from. The boards were then sent to Goss Lumber where they were kiln dried and milled in the shiplap fashion. Since this layer will be covered on both sides we were able to use a lower quality board.
On top of the diagonal shiplap boards we put a layer of felt paper.
